About Barbara Houwers

Het werk van Barbara Houwers bestaat uit schilderijen, tekeningen en sculpturen op de grens van beeldhouwkunst en schilderkunst. Aanvankelijk opgeleid als schilder (HKU 1992) ontvouwd zich door de jaren heen een consistent oeuvre In een eigen, herkenbare stijl. Kenmerkend in haar werk is de ’gestalte’, een gestileerde mensfiguur. Ze verbeeldde de gestalte in de loop van de tijd sober dan weer uitbundig, metersgroot en centimetersklein op papier, doek, in klei en 3D print. Ze vertelt in onderliggende thema’s over de mens, kracht, verbinding, identiteit en bagage.
