In her work, Barbara Houwers depicts the balance between man and his/her space. From universal sub-themes (but also from her personal history) she investigates subjects such as strength, connection, identity, migration and baggage. Originally trained as a painter/sculptor with a recognizable euvre, her work gradually developed towards conceptual art from 2020 onwards and work was created in various disciplines and techniques. Characteristic in her work remains the ‘Gestalte’, a stylized human figure that the viewer constantly perceives, sometimes close up, sometimes by zooming out. Man and the story.
Her work is included in many collections at home and abroad. www.barbarahouwers.com.
